Nanocellulose is nanomaterial which has attracted attention due to its properties comparable to materials such as nanosilver. Many wood and nowood sources have been used to produce nanocellulose. Non wood residue has attracted attention due to dual advantage of low cost raw material and also reduction in environmental waste. Mechanical, chemical, enzymatic or combination of these have been used. In many of the methods mineral acids have been commonly used along with other methods. However, of recent much focus has been laid on reducing used of these acids and low environmental impact based chemical have been used. In our paper we have tried to use coir as raw material and used low environmental impact based material in combination with enzymatic approach to synthesize nanocellulose. Characterization of nanocellulose was done. Very well dispersed nanocellulose was observed in Scanning electron microscope.
