Micro injection molding requires high mold temperature during filling to reduce flow resistance and prevent freezing. But this would prolong the cycle time and reduce the productivity. Rapid heating cooling systems for micro molds are designed, implemented and tested in this study. Both numerical and experimental methods are employed. Three types of systems are implemented: air heating/air cooling, heat tube heating/ water cooling, heat tube heating/ liquid nitrogen cooling. The distribution and time trace of three systems are compared. The performace of heat tube heating/ water cooling is found to be the best.
