An investigation of the cell nucleation and initial growth behaviour in the foam processing of the biodegradable polymers so called, aliphatic polyesters, was performed. These materials were foamed in batch reactor with blowing agent CO2. In general, an increasing trend in the CPD (cell population density) was observed as the pressure of the blowing agent was increased. Especially the more cell population density was observed at the higher pressure than the critical pressure of CO2.
Empirical data showed that the cell morphologies, CPD and the density are dependent upon the pressure of blowing agent, temperature control and immersing time with rheological properties such as G’, G’’, MI, melt tension, melt strength and etc.
