Poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) and acetyl (tributyle citrate) (ATBC) were added to poly(lactic acid) blends to increase their processing, performance, while improving ductile properties. ATBC showed higher plasticizer efficiency than EVA directly related to the similarity solubility parameters between ATBC and both biopolymers. Moreover, ATBC was more efficiency retained to the polymer matrix during processing than EVA. PLA-EVA-ATBC blends were homogeneous and transparent blends that showed promising performance for the preparation of films by a ready industrial process technology for food packaging applications. The effect of acetyl tributyle citrate (ATBC) on the dynamical mechanical, morphological, thermal and crystallization behavior of Polylactic acid/Ethylene vinyl acetate elastomers (PLA/EVA) blends was investigated. When 25 phr of ATBC was introduced into neat PLA, the transition relaxation α decrease with the increase of EVA and ATBC, however, the glass transition temperature (Tg) and melt point (Tm) decreased by 20°C and 15°C respectively. When 25 phr ATBC to PLA was added to the blend of PLA/EVA the tan δ decreased by 47%, 57% respectively. ATBC improved the dispersion of EVA particles in the blends.
