This work aimed to prepare PA6/TPU blends with and without the presence of a compatibilizing agent (PEO-g-AM) in order to produce PA 6 based materials with higher impact resistance. Blends containing 0, 2, 10 or 20 wt% of TPU with or without compatibilizer were prepared in an intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. The mechanical properties of hardness and impact resistance were determined on specimens obtained by injection molding. The impact specimens were also tested after accelerated aging test. Shore D hardness tests have shown variations only for blends with high TPU concentrations. Regarding impact resistance, a significant increase was observed with the incorporation of 10 wt% TPU, reaching 350% for the non-compatibilized sample and 480% for the compatibilized. Besides that, blends containing 20 wt% of TPU did not failure even with the use of a higher energy pendulum (10.84 J). The impact resistance of the blends tested after accelerated thermal aging shows increases of 6.5%, 122% and 614% for the non-compatibilized samples and 80%, 248% and 718% for the compatibilized ones when compared to PA6.
