Preparation of super engineering plastic fiber for artificial hair during melt-spinning

Super Engineering Plastics (SEPs) are at the highest end of the spectrum, generally with very high strength and thermal resistance. It is used in high temperature, high stress, in harsh environments, and low to medium volume production. High thermal resistance SEPs fiber were prepared by melt-spinning process of polysulfone (PSU), polyethersulfone(PES), polyetherimide (PEI) and PSU with poly(arylene ether)sulfone(PAES). The PSU, PES, and PEI were prepared at 330 to 380 degree with a winder speed 260 to 2,000 mpm. The characteristics of SEPs fiber was studied by SEM and UTM. The linear density of SEPs fiber was measured by SEM, and the tensile strength was studied through UTM. And those SEP fibers applied to artificial hair. SEPs fiber exhibited superior flammability, heat resistance, curl forming, and melting dripping fire retardant than PET or PVC artificial hair. As PESs fiber has better heat resistance than PET or PVC fiber, it is suitable for use as artificial hair for human hair alternatives. Also, we studied a dye artificial hair with improved flame retardancy by adding carbon black and it showed black color. Herein, the SEPs fiber with excellent flame retardancy and functional performance had practical value for application in the field of synthetic artificial hair.
