Describing the polymer recycling, one of the most important effect are the degradation, where changes in molecular structure affect applications properties, leading to downcycle applications, less nobles and with lower requirements. To HDPE it is not different, where Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance(ESCR) and rheological performance changes significantly, resulting in technical application limit. Some efforts are in place to solve part of the problems at least to guarantee the Rheological stability through a more intense additivities packaging, for example. This act solves partially the problem but do not avoid its consume or improves some properties. Braskem developed a new class of technology that not only improves significantly the ESCR of HDPE but also retain ESCR property, stabilizes resins rheology and also reduce the Antioxidant consume after several processing cycles. In general example, after 5 processing cycles an usual HDPE would lost 70% of ESCR and significantly changes in rheological properties are observed. The new technology demonstrated a decrease much lower, less than 30% in some cases or not detectable in others, but maintain almost the same rheological property and retain antioxidant activity after 5 cycles. This outstanding result brings a new HDPE behavior where it is possible to guarantee processing stability and high performance to recycled materials.
