Glazing materials have been required high surface hardness and ductile properties. Polycarbonate (PC) is attracting attention as a high transparent polymer, but PC has the low surface hardness. Modified PC (mPC) which will include different chemical structures in addition to normal PC, and it shows higher surface hardness than the normal PC. However, the mPC is a little brittle material compared to the normal PC.
In this study, a novel PC/mPC blends to possesses both high hardness and ductile properties by a twin-screw kneading extruder was fabricated. The blends were characterized higher order structure as optical and thermal analysis. The surface hardness and its toughness were also evaluated by using a nano-indentation and an impact strength testing.
