In this work, oxygen absorption properties, microstructure, and thermal behavior of Ethylcellulose (EC) and poly Butadiene based blends were investigated. Thermal behavior and morphological structure are studied to determine the phase behavior of the blends. The polymeric films were prepared using solution casting method from toluene/ethanol mixture. Morphology of cast films was studied using SEM. SEM images of pure EC and EC/poly Butadiene based blends showed dispersed elliptical domains, related to poly Butadiene based resin in EC matrix resulted from not fully miscible nature of phases that forms the droplet-matrix morphology. DSC measurements presented the reduction in glass transition of EC as the matrix, with increasing the composition of dispersed domains, which confirms the presence of affinity between the components of the blends. Oxygen absorption measurements were carried out on pure EC and the blends. The oxygen absorption results revealed that adding Butadiene based unsaturated resin has increased scavenging properties of EC as the polymeric matrix.
