In this work, biobased, biocompatible and biodegradable cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) was used as a reinforcement in poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly[(butylene adipate)-co-terephthalate] (PBAT) to prepare fully-biodegradable nanocomposites. Dilution of nanocomposite masterbatches were prepared with varying CNC contents of 0.5, 1, 2, and 3 wt%. The masterbatches were prepared using solution casting and the dilution was conducted using a twin screw extruder. Different methods such as transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, wide angle X-Ray diffraction and rheological measurements were used to investigate the morphology and properties of resulting nanocomposites. The mechanical, thermal and physical properties of PLA/CNC and PBAT/CNC nanocomposites were also studied. Furthermore, the effects of drying conditions of masterbatches on the final properties of nanocomposites were investigated.
