Wet-RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) molding applies the resin onto the surface of the reinforcements and then the resin flows into the fabric with mold compression. This process is gaining attention thanks to car marker’s use in recent years. Since both the fabric layup and charge location affect resin flow, it’s not easy to know the resin flow behavior in complex mold cavity. In this study, we predict the resin flow in Wet-RTM process by using the novel three-dimensional simulation tool which can consider the Darcy’s law and moving boundary problem in compression process. The simulation results demonstrate the effect of the ply orientation and initial resin location variation by flow front evolution and pressure distribution during the compression stage. It could help user to determine the fabric layup and charge location before manufacturing processes to save try and error costs.
