Many kinds of electrospinning methods have emerged and been well investigated in the past two decades in the pursuer of nanofiber preparation and its scaling-up. Among which, melt electrospinning, as a non-solvent route, has draw great attention in recent years since its high yield and safety. However, there was few work has been done on the mass production of nanofiber and yarn production by polymer melt based method. On this basis, we propose melt differential electrospinning method without needles and any solvents. Experiments shows single differential electrospinning nozzle could yield jets number two orders of magnitude more than the needle electrospinning could. A simple solution for yarn production was also introduced with narrow diameter distribution. Larger scale production can be easily performed by modular designing and assembling. For example, nanofiers from polypropylene, poly lactic acid (PLA), and polyphenylene sulfite(PPS)melts have been realized by this method. Applications of as-spun fibers in air filtration have been carried out, and application in oil spill recovery, water treatment, and tissue scaffold etc, are also promising.
