We fabricated a PA6/SEBS-g-MA/PS ternary blend using high shear kneading technology. By controlling higher order structures, we evaluated the effect on physical properties. The blend ratio was adjusted so that PA6 was a matrix and SEBS-g-MA and PS were domains. In order to modify rheological properties of SEBS-g-MA, 50 wt% of paraffin oil was added. As a result, Tg of PS component of SEBS-g-MA decreased greatly. In particular, when blending with a low molecular weight oil, Tg of PS component decreased from 100 ℃ to 31 ℃. It was found that the domain in which SEBS-g-MA encapsulated PS and formed core-shell structure was dispersed in the PA6 matrix. By uniformly and finely dispersing SEBS-g-MA in PA6, the Charpy impact strength against PA6 was improved. In the vicinity of the notch after Charpy test, many voids were generated from SEBS-g-MA domain. It is considered that localized stress concentration was relaxed by the uniform formation of voids and the impact energy was absorbed. In the high speed tensile test (60000 mm/s), the low molecular weight oil blend system showed the highest elongation at break. We have also found that impact resistance and high-speed deformation characteristics were improved by controlling the sea-island structure in the domain by added third component (PS).
