LIGHTING LED BULBS : THE PATENT PROFILE

Polymers are chemical substances that consist of large molecules that are, themselves, made from many smaller and simpler molecules. One of the development for LED (light-emitting diode) is Polymer LED - a technology based on the use of polymer as the semiconductor material in LEDs. This paper searches for relevant LED bulbs from the database of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) from 1976 to 2014. The analysis content covers the national level, company level, and technology level. From the patent analysis of the national level, the USA has the best performance. In the company level, Switch Bulb Company, Inc has the best performance for obtaining the maximum patents. According to the technological field of USPC, green lighting LED bulbs patents mainly focus on D26/2, 362/249.n ad 313/46, particularly in D26/2. Among all the companies, American companies have a better performance. However, Hon Hai Group is the only company covering these three technology fields among all the companies in the field. Analyses from this paper attempt to demonstrate the development trend and operation of green lighting LED bulbs technologies from different aspects. Moreover, it endeavors to discover the technology gap as an important reference for other relevant LED bulbs companies which plan to develop new technologies and increase their competitiveness in the future.
