Because of reorganization at slow heating, conventional DSC is not an approvable technique to characterize the melting behavior of polymer samples with thermo-mechanical history. For characterization of samples as received higher scanning rates should be used to reduce reorganization effects. Fast Scanning Calorimetry (FSC) offers sufficient high heating rates, however the heat contact between sensor and sample is not good enough for reproducible measurements. Therefore a contact medium (oil) is recommended for such measurements. On the example of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) a technique is introduced to analyses polymer samples as received by a METTLER TOLEDO Flash DSC 1 at heating rates of 1000 K/s.
