It was analyzed through this project the effectivity of theorganofilization process on a Brazilian sodium bentonite clay, using the quaternary ammonium salt Dodigen 1611 by cation exchange in aqueous dispersion in a laboratory scale. The organofilization process main goal is increase the distance between the clay lamellae area, improving it's nanocomposites aplications. The contact's area increase and the organofilic property make this material extremely useful in the polymers industry. Three pre-experiments were required before the organofilization, a purification using the Hydrogen Peroxide Method and the cation exchange capacity using the Blue Methylene Index Method and a high precision instrumental analysis by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The final and the pure product were caractherized by X ray diffraction, showing a variation between the galleries with the intercalation of organic cations, by thermogravimetric analysis to evaluate the tenor of organic cations and the thermal stability, which was expected according to the literature and by scanning electronic microscopy to evaluate the morphology of the particles.
