Electrospinning is regarded as one of the most versatile process for nanometer scale fibers generation from a variety of materials, including polymers and ceramics. The process consists in the application of intense electric field in a polymer solution, which by means of electrostatic forces is deposited in the form of a polymer non-woven layer of fibers. In this work the ideal parameters for the electrospinning process of polysulfone (PSU) nanofibers were determined, by means of the correlation with morphological evaluations through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The nanofibers were obtained by electrospinning of polymer solutions of PSU dissolved in N,N-dimethylacetamide. The processing parameters evaluated in the electrospinning process were: voltage (15, 18 and 20 kV), working distance (5, 10 and 15 cm) and polymer concentration (8, 12, 20, 26 and 28 wt.%). A correlation between the fibers morphology and these processing parameters were done to produce nanofibers with large surface area to volume ratio, lower concentration of defects and diameters distribution homogeneous. Keywords: electrospinning, polysulfone (PSU), N,N-dimethyl-acetamide, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), processing parameters.
