The expansion of a polymer is the process in which gas cells are introduced into a product during processing, been consider an alternative to reduce the density of the material. This work evaluates samples injected with a blend of ABS/PVC in the ratio 60/40 w/w, using azodicarbonamide as its blowing agent in combination with sodium bicarbonate and oxybis(benzene-sulfonyl-hydrazine) as a lightweight alternative to ABS for industrial applications. Scanning electron microscopy evaluation shows that the samples have skin thicknesses and cell size distribution highly dependent of composition, with the results indicating that azodicarbonamide in combination with oxybis (benzenesulfonylhydrazine) has demonstrated better skin uniformity and uniformity in cell size distribution. Furthermore, the compression test also has shown better properties for expansion with azodicarbonamide combined with oxybis(benzene-sulfonyl-hydrazine).
