In the present work, new resins based on epoxidized sunflower oil (ESFO) have been synthesised via acrylation reaction. ESFO, of 6.1 % oxirane index, has been reacted with acrylic acid in the presence of triéthylamine as catalyst, reaction temperature and the catalyst percent have been optimized. The reaction conversion has been considered by following the oxirane ring reduction. This last has been calculated using titration of the epoxy ring and the quantitative infrared analysis. The acrylated epoxidized sunflower oil (AESFO) resins have been characterized in terms of FTIR and NMR1H. In the second step of work, the biodegradation level of sunflower oil derivatives (ESFO and AESFO) has been carried at a lab scale by realizing a respirometry test following standards, based on determination of released carbon dioxide (CO2). Results have shown that the sunflower oil derivatives into soil cover a considerable level of biodegradation. Key words: epoxidized sunflower oil, acrylation, biodegradable polymers, respirometry.
