A ferroelectric inorganic perovskite, [KNbO3]1-x[BaNi1/2Nb1/2O3-]x or KBNNO was synthesized by two different routes: solid state and solution combustion synthesis. The morphology, particle size, phase identification and band-gaps of both materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Differences in the morphology, particle sizes and band gaps of the two types of particles were found. Films of the composites of KBNNO particles and poly (styrene) (PS) were produced by spin-coating. The dispersion and distribution of the particles in the PS were investigated by SEM and current-voltage measurements were used to analyze the electrical characteristics of the photovoltaic cells. It was found that the synthesis method influenced these photovoltaic properties, due mainly to the change in morphology and band-gaps. Keywords: Photovoltaic nanocomposites, KBNNO, PS.
