Shape memory polymers are widely used in several fields such as electronics, packaging, medicine, automotive and heat shrinkable tubes for insulation. Polyolefins like HDPE, LDPE or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) are usually used for the preparation of heat tubes. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the heat-shrink properties of peroxide cross-linked LDPE/EVA blends to b used for heat-shrink tubes for cable insulation. The most important features of EVA for which it has been selected here as the blend component are its lower response temperature of the shape memory effect, good recovery, and good flow behavior and low heat conductivity. Blends having different ratios of LDPE/EVA/peroxide were prepared in an Xplore 15 cc micro-compounder at 130 „aC and crosslinking was performed using extruded granules at 165„aC in a hot-press. The shape-recovery properties of blends were investigated as a function of blend ratio and peroxide content. The thermal and mechanical properties were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and tensile test.
