PLA is one of the most promising biodegradable polymers from renewable resources due to its excellent mechanical properties. Since PLA was discovered by Carothers in 1932, PLA has been widely used for a variety industrial applications including packaging, medical tools and a feedstock materials in 3D printers. However, poor thermal stability of PLA still limits its widespread use in industry. In order to overcome this limitation, various approaches, such as controlling crystallinity of PLA and incorporation of nanoclay into PLA, to improve the low thermal resistance of PLA have been investigated and reported. In this study, PLA/ CA blend was prepared by blending PLA with plasticized CA. The influence of plasticizers on the thermal property of PLA/CA blend was investigated by DMA and DSC. It was found that plasticized CA not only enables melt blending process of PLA/CA blend, but also improves the heat resistance of PLA. Keywords: Polylactic acid (PLA), Cellulose acetate (CA), Blending, Heat resistance.
