Considering that most neat rubbers are mechanically weak and electrically/thermally insulating, it is essential to incorporate fillers into rubbers to improve the mechanical performance and impart functional properties. Recently, it was reported that the combination of two geometrically dissimilar fillers could produce significant synergistic effects in improving the properties of the rubber composites. Herein, some examples on the design and construction of graphene based hybrid fillers (halloysite-, carbon nanofiber-, carbon nanotubes-graphene) in rubber composites from our lab are illustrated. A principle method for preparing hybrid filler is to enhance the special interaction among fillers, which facilitates the formation of more developed filler network and homogeneous dispersion of filler in rubber composites as the fillers can interact with each other to form co-supporting network and prevent the self-aggregation. As a result, the remarkable synergetic effects in enhancing the performances of the resulting composites are observed.
