Innovation and Development on Polymer Plasticating and Conveying Technology

Polymer plasticating and conveying is a deformation process under the action of external force fields, of which the technology and equipment determine the final structures and properties of products to a great extent. At present, there has been a significant advance in polymer processing technology with screw equipment. Based on numerous thoughts and practice, our research team has being developed a novel processing method dominated vibration shear deformation and realized the polymer processing principle by the "steady shear" to "dynamic shear" change by introducing a vibration force field into the polymer plasticating and conveying process, which results in dynamic shear deformation of the polymer, at the same time, makes plasticating and conveying volume of the polymer change periodically so that an additional elongation deformation strengthened with the increase of dynamic shear strength is generated in the polymer. Subsequently, we have presented on the polymer plasticating and conveying method based on elongation rheology and realized the polymer processing principle by the "shear rheology" to "elongation rheology" change by making the primary and secondary relations of shear and elongation deformation dominating during the polymer plasticating and conveying upside down, which has broken through the technical principles of conventional screw processing equipment dominated by shear rheology. The novel processing technology for polymer has completely broken through the "screw" marked development model over the past few decades, which is of significant characteristics such as low energy consumption, wide adaptability for processing materials, and the good performance of products, and will play an important role in saving energy in polymer processing process, recycling of waste materials and renewable resources of polymer.
