In this study, a serie of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/chitosan (CS) hydrogels with different weight ratios of PVA to CS were fabricated by freezing-thawing (F-T) method. The structure, morphology, and cristallinity of hydrogels were investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). FTIR demonstrated that there were strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the molecules of CS and PVA. SEM images showed that the porous size of hydrogels increase with increasing chitosan due to the reduction of entangling between PVA chains caused by chitosan and DSC confirmed that cristallinity is higher when PVA is more in hydrogel. The rheological properties and swelling ratio of these hydrogels were studied, hydrogel developed with PVA and Cs was more swellable, flexible and elastic than that with PVA only because of its cross-linking interaction with PVA. Keywords: PVA/Cs hydrogel, structure, morphology, rheological properties
