Shape memory polymers (SMPs) are mostly blends or copolymers which under some special stimulus such as temperature, light, PH, magnetic field and electric field will return to its original shape from its temporary shape. polymer blending is one of the important way to produce tailor made alloys like SMPs. in the prestnt study two polymers with high differtences between glass transition were selected.ethylene octane copolymer (EOC) as a matrix phase and cycloolefin copolymer (COC) as dispersed phase have been selected. all blends mixed in internals mixer and two set of samples with peroxide and without peroxide with different EOC/COC ratio were prepared . Shape memory tests such as recovery and fixity as well as SEM and rheological measurement were done on the samples. In all blends, dispersed COC phase acted as fixed phase while the EOC matrix phase plays as reversible phase .the switch transition temperature was selected 70 C , close to glass transition of reversible phase while the glass transition of fixed phase was so far from switch transition temperatures. for all samples with different EOC/COC ratio shape fixity 〖 R〗_f and shape recovery R_r were measured and the optimum blend ratio was selected 70/30 for both types of with and without peroxide. the results showed better recovery and fixity for samples with peroxide . we found that the peroxide can play as a in-situ compatiblizer between two phase and can modified morphology structure . Rhological and electron microscopy results also were in good agreement with this concept.
