Electrospinning as a continuous preparation method of macro- and nano-scale fiber has been widely researched in academia and industry over the past several decades. Unfortunately, in terms of the productivity and spinability of some polymers like polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polyphenylene Sulfite (PPS),solution electrospinning became powerless. Melt electrospinning, an alternative method for thermoplastic polymer fiber production, can solve this problem with some additional advantages: smooth surface of resultant fiber, high yield, controllability of spinning condition, and the absence of solvent. PPS Ultra-fine fiber was popular among reaesrchers as filtraton membrane in high temperature. In this paper, a melt differential electrospinning method and as pinning apparatus featuring a cone-shape nozzle were proposed, by which PPS Ultra-fine fiber around 5mirometers was obtained. Surface morphology and mechanical behavior of melt electrospun PPS fibers were studied by SEM analysis and tensile tester. Filtration test under high temperature of 190, 200, 210, 220℃was studied, indicating its excellent filtration performance. A high yield of 12.5g/h per spinning head was attained by this novel device, which was about 50 times higher than that of traditional solution electrospinning method using capillary tubes.
