Study of compatibilization of semi-aromatic polysulfide amide on PPS/PA6

Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is widely used because its good corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, thermal and dimensional stability. However, PPS is not so flexible that limit its application in some stringent area. Usually, PA6 is considered to be a kind of flexible materials. Then we try to prepare the blend of PPS/PA6 to improve the toughness of PPS. But the compatibility of PPS/PA6 is so poor that restricts the application of this material. Based on the molecular structure of PPS and PA6, we designed and synthesized the semi-aromatic polyamide sulfide (PAS6T) which containing amide and thioether units as the compatibilizer for PPS/PA6 blend. This study systematically discusses the properties of PPS/PA6 blend system with different contents of compatibilizer (PAS6T). The results showed that the tensile properties, flexural properties and impact properties are improved with the addition of mass fraction of 4% compatibilizer. Keyword:PPS, Nylon 6, Compatibilizer
