ABSTRACT: In this work the linear viscoelastic behavior of polyamide 6 (PA6) Acrylonitrile–Butadiene–Styrene (ABS) nanocomposite blends have been investigated. We studied the effects of addition of nanoclay concentration and polyethylene octene elastomer grafted with maleic anhydride (POE-g-MA) as the compatibilizer agent on the morphological and rheological properties of the blends. The morphological behaviors of nanocomposite samples examined by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These results showed that with increasing nanoclay content, size of dispersing phase droplets decreases significantly and their uniformity improve considerably. In addition, TEM micrographs confirmed formation of relatively well-dispersed of nanoclay tactoids in the polymer blends produced by exfoliation of nanoclay. Dynamic strain sweep experiments displayed that the extent of the linear viscoelastic limit is sensitive to nanoclay content and compatibilizer agent and with increasing nanoclay content in the blend, the extent of the linear viscoelastic region decreases. The presented results indicated that, with increasing the nanoclay content the complex viscosity was increasesed. On the other hand, the Carreau-Yasuda model applied to extract information on rheological behaviors of PA6/ABS blends and determined by fitting the experimental data with this model.
