Within the scope of this project (03ET6068E) polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) based bipolar plates for use in high temperature PEM fuel cells with an active size of 227 x 114 x 1.35 mm should be realized in one step including all structures by injection molding for the first time. The key for the successful realization of the project is the interaction of a specially modified injection molding machine with the core innovation - the "induction sandwich base injection mold" - and its customized materials. In the still ongoing project ZBT develops new highly conductive polymer compounds for bipolar plates in HT-PEM fuel cell which are actually tested on a new inductive variothermal injection mold developed by project partner Dr. Schneider. The proving and systematic study of the new compound materials and the injection molding process is done at a 500t injection molding machine at ZBT. The injection molded HT-PEM bipolar plates are in-situ tested by fischer eco solutions and finally qualified in tests in their fuel cell stacks and systems. The new optimized injection mold should demonstrate the suitability of mass production of highly conductive HT-PEM bipolar plates.
