Many surfaces in nature namely, lotus leaf, cicada wings, water spider legs and gecko feet have attracted a large group of researchers owing to their inherent Superhydrophobicity and self-cleaning properties. These surfaces are characterized by water contact angles greater than 150° and contact angle hysteresis <10°. Such a phenomenon is observed due to the combined effect of hierarchical structures resulting from micron and nano sized features, and surface energy of the substrate. In this work, we demonstrate a continuous and high rate fabrication methodology for production of such Superhydrophobic surfaces on a large area polyamide film using roll-to-roll hot embossing process.
