Application of Functional Magnesium-based Nanomaterials in Room Temperature Vulcanized Silicon Rubber Composite

Abstract: The influence of the room temperature vulcanized silicon rubber(RTV) composites on mechanical properties, flame retardant and smoke suppression were studied by adding different proportion of superfine magnesium hydroxide(SMDH), nano magnesium hydroxide(NMDH), MgFe-LDH and MgFeCe-LDH into the RTV with dealcoholized one part room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber as the matrix. Tensile strength results indicate that the tensile strength of RTV/SMDH composite is the highest when the filler is 60 phr, the value is more than 3 MPa. Tensile results indicate that the elongation at break rate of RTV/MgFe-LDH composite is above 700%, which is two times than that of NMDH and the MgFe-LDH is suitable for preparation elastomer composites with RTV. Strength results indicate that strength of RTV composites grows gradually with the increasing of the fillers. Limited oxygen index(LOI) results indicate that the flame retardant property of the composites has improved a lot with the increasing of the fillers. Among these, the influence of SMDH on the composites is the most obvious, for example, the RTV/SMDH composite has a good flame retardant property with 60 phr of SMDH and the RTV/LDH has a slightly flame retardant property with the same filler of SMDH. Smoke density(SDR) results indicate that the SDR of composites are significantly lower with the same filler, which can greatly improve the security of RTV.
