Combining thermoplastic materials with thermoset rubbers is a rather new two-component injection molding process. One of the most important parameters in this process is the adhesion between the two components. This adhesion is directly dependent on the material combination and on the process settings, as shown in earlier work by Bex et al. [1]. The goal of the present work is to develop a tool to predict a relative value for this adhesive strength based on simulation data and experimental findings for the combination of rubber and thermoplastic. Via the UDB mesh file the presented script automatically finds the adhesive zone for various shapes and products. Confirmed simulation results [2] such as temperature, degree of cure, pressures, etc… will be retrieved out of the Moldflow Simulation software via the XML result files. The data in the XML files are used to plot the required data on this dividing surface. Combining simulations and measurements, this script plots the resulting relative adhesive strength distribution on this dividing surface. The tool should help designers to optimize their product and mold design to achieve optimal adhesion between the thermoplastics and the thermoset rubber.
