In this work, a novel kind of nano-micro hybrid structure of á-alumina (á-Al2O3) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was designed to improve thermal conductivity of poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) composite. Both kinds of the fillers were functionalized with ã-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH560) to improve interfacial interaction of the composite. The presence of covalently bonded silane functional groups on the surface of fillers was proved by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) method. It is found that the two kinds of fillers play a synergistic effect on the thermal conductivity of PPS composites. The thermal conductivity of composites with 50 wt% hybrid fillers is up to 1.46 W/mK, which is approximately a 595 % enhancement compared to that of pure PPS. Such remarkable enhancement results suggest the formation of effective thermal conductive network within PPS matrix.
