Alkaline battery has been widely applied in a variety of energy system, whose shell material not only require high flame retardancy and transparency, but also excellent mechanical properties, especially the low temperature impact resistance. Nowadays, storage battery shell generally used block copolymerization polypropylene (PP, such as AY564) as matrix material leding to a high production cost. In the paper, a satisfactory PP with comparable transparency and low-temperature toughness with AY564 was prepared at low cost by blending modification of transparent random copolymerized PP with homopolymerized PP and EPDM, combining with induced heterogeneous nucleation by nucleating agent. Considering the good transparency and toughness, the random copolymerized PP (melt index 3~5) has chosen, whose molding processability was improved by homopolymerized PP and low-temperature toughness was strengthen by adding β nucleating agent and mixing eith EPDM. As results, this transparent PP material shows the impact strength of 6.4 kJ/m2 (at room temperature) and 3.9 kJ/m2 (-40 ℃ for 24 h) (GB /, ISO179 T1843-1996-1), respectively, and possesses transparent rate of more than 50% (GB/T2410-2008). Further more, owing to the synergistic effect of silicone and antimony oxide flame retardant, the oxygen index of the prepared PP material is higher than 28.6 (ASTM D2863).
