Based on transparent and environmentally friendly PVC/DOTP gels made by the solution casting method, we propose a variable focus micro lens. The micro lens consists of an electroactive PVC/DOTP gel and positive and negative electrodes. Electrons from the negative electrodes pass the PVC gel to the positive electrodes when voltages are applied, and then electrically induced creep deformation of the PVC gel occurs, resulting in a double-convex micro lens. The electrode arrangement way is not limited to both sides. The creep deformation on the PVC gel increases with the increase of voltages, changing its optical focal length. Besides, the speed of focal length changes is determined by the accumulated conduction time. Flexible electrode arrangement makes the PVC gel micro lens easily applied to consumer electronic devices.
