A novel silicone thermoplastic elastomer (TPE-Si) was synthesized by condensation reaction of end-functional silicone oligomer and ureas. High molecular weight TPE-Si was prepared through the reaction with chain extender. On account of its structure and the high siloxane content, the material is highly flexible and combines excellent transparency with good mechanical properties. The tensile strength and elongation reached to 8 Mpa and 400%, rescpectively. TPE-Si had been extensively investigated as an useful elastic material. Compared with the traditional silicone rubber, TPE-Si does not need curing to obtain mechanical properties, which can be processed by double screw. The effects of temperature rheological properties of TPE-Si was researched by using capillary rheometer, resulted with processing temperature of TPE-Si in the range of 160 to 190 oC. Process of twin crew extrusion and casting were applied to produce silicone tubing, sheet and film, which have excellent performance. This is the first time to prepare silicone film through tape casting process. The thermodynamic properties and microstructure of the silicon thermoplastic elastomer were further studied by DMA, DSC, TGA, XRD. More data will be shown in the presentation of PPS conference.
