An interphase transfer of carbon nanofillers, i.e, multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and graphene (GnP), between immiscible polymer pairs during annealing treatment was investigated. A pure polycarbonate (PC) sheet was placed onto a sheet of polyethylene (PE) composite, and annealed at 300 oC for 10 min. Then, the laminated sheets were quenched and separated. It was found that both MWCNTs and GnPs move from PE to PC, whereas, the transfer of fillers from PC to PE was not detected. This contradict transfer phenomenon is attributed to the difference in the interfacial tension between filler and polymer. Furthermore, it was clarified that the amount of MWCNTs on the surface of the separated PC sheet is larger than that of GnPs, demonstrating that the MWCNT transfer occurs promptly compared to the GnP transfer.
